How to Prepare for CBSE Class 11 Biology Examination 2026-27?
- Complete all 19 chapters prescribed in the Class XI theory syllabus.
- Give sufficient revision time to Human Physiology, which carries 18 marks.
- Study biological classification, cell structures and plant physiology using the prescribed NCERT textbook.
- Practise biological diagrams and explanations relevant to the syllabus.
- Review the topics specifically excluded from summative assessment.
- Keep the practical record and project work up to date.
- Prepare for experiments, slide identification, spotting and viva voce.

Important Instructions
- Marks split: Biology is assessed out of 100 marks, with 70 for theory and 30 for practical. The subject code is 044.
- Unit-wise weightage: Diversity of Living Organisms carries 15 marks, Structural Organisation 10, Cell: Structure and Function 15, Plant Physiology 12 and Human Physiology 18. Human Physiology is the heaviest unit.
- Practical (30 marks): This covers a major experiment (5), a minor experiment (4), slide preparation (5), spotting (7), practical record and viva (4) and project work (5). Keep your records and project file complete before the practical.
- Question types: The paper is described as roughly 20% MCQ or assertion-reason, 20% case-based or competency-based, and 60% short and long answer questions with compulsory diagrams. One source lists a section-wise pattern totalling 80 marks, which doesn’t match the 70-mark theory paper, so rely on your school’s sample paper.
- Dates and chapters: I found no official Class 11 Biology exam date, since your school conducts Class 11 exams. Some sources say the syllabus has 19 chapters while another says 22 chapters. Check the official CBSE syllabus PDF and your school’s notices for the final chapter list and date.
